Physics of Snowboarding :: physics snowboard sport sports
In snowboard as in any other sport the athlete has to be thinking at all times, analyzing the situation that surrounds you, make split decisions, and even perform quick calculations in your head. Where this happens most in snowboarding is when the snowboarder is going to performs some type of aerial trick off of a jump. There are a lot of things that a snowboarder has to be aware of and be thinking about before he hits the jump. How far do I need to go to make the landing? How fast do I need to be going when I hit the jump? If I am going to spin, how fast should I so that I can make it around in time? The list goes on and on. Some other factors that can come into play are: snow conditions, the type of snowboard, and experience of the rider. Which are much more advanced topics, and way beyond the scope of what we're worrying about here. What I am mainly going to be looking at are the basic characteristics of your average snowboard jump. So how much speed should I have to hit the jump with? Well to answer this question you first have to know how far you have to go to clear the landing of the jump so that you donà t land in the flats and break you knees or go to far and break your back. If the jump that you need to clear is 20 feet long you will have to be going at a certain speed. So, what is that speed? Well you can figure this out by knowing what angle you built the jump at, the height of the jump and the distance to the landing. It is fairly easy to find the velocity by using the equation for a trajectory. Now that you know how to find all of the correct parts of your jump to clear it successfully you can now add some difficulty and variety to the trick by spinning while in the air. Since you know the distance and your velocity from before you can find out what your air time was. Once you have all of that info you can use it to solve for what your angular velocity should be depending of how much you want to spin. That way you can make sure that you'll complete the spins in time to spot your landing and get ready for impact.

How does this opening prepare the reader for what is to come in the novel? Essay
Throughout the opening chapter of ââ¬ËLord of the Fliesââ¬â¢ there are many events which foreshadow later events of the novel. Golding sets the beginning of the novel at the site of the plane rash, the scar. The scar had been ââ¬Ësmashedââ¬â¢ and had ââ¬Ëshaken tree trunksââ¬â¢. The boysââ¬â¢ presence on the island has already imprinted the island. It foreshadows the future corruption the boys will make on the previously uninhabited island. There are also hints of the dangerous side of the island. A bird described as a ââ¬Ëvision of red and yellowââ¬â¢ ââ¬â natureââ¬â¢s warning colours for danger ââ¬â sounded a ââ¬Ëwitch-like cryââ¬â¢ The ââ¬Ëwitch-likeââ¬â¢ description of the cry foreshadows the ritualistic, savage and tribal state most of the boys will descend to. The potential danger is also shown by the twigs and thorns having ââ¬Ëscratchedââ¬â¢ Piggy. Additionally, the fruit is obviously inedible and causes Piggy ââ¬Ëpainââ¬â¢, a further demonstration of the islandââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëbadââ¬â¢ side. This foreshadows the islandââ¬â¢s many features that help contribute to the boysââ¬â¢ future: the pigs descending the choir into savage hunters; the rock and cliff edge contributing to Piggyââ¬â¢s death; its location isolating the boys from civilisation. Another event prepared by the opening is Piggy and Ralphââ¬â¢s relationship. The contrast between the two characters is noticeable from the start. Piggy is shown to be rational and intelligent, an incredibly useful trait in the future. Whilst Ralph shows a childish innocence and optimism ââ¬â ââ¬ËHeââ¬â¢ll be backââ¬â¢. Ralph originally ignores Piggy; he is ââ¬Ëobviously uninterestedââ¬â¢ in Piggyââ¬â¢s rambles. However, he gradually begins to respond to Piggyââ¬â¢s questions and he ââ¬Ëlooked interestedââ¬â¢. This foreshadows how Ralph and Piggyââ¬â¢s friendship will develop in the novel and how Ralph will come to value and appreciate Piggyââ¬â¢s thoughts and contributions. Additionally, Piggy ââ¬Ëtook off his glasses and held them out to Ralphââ¬â¢. This is a significant moment for many reasons. Firstly, it shows the trust already in their friendship; Piggy is reliant on the glasses to see and, without them, would be vulnerable. Secondly, the glasses come to be of great importance in the novel. They are the only piece of help from the outside World and are a necessity for starting the fires which get the boys rescued in the end. Lastly, they symbolise Piggyââ¬â¢s clear-sightedness and insightful thinking which he gives to Ralph in later chapters when he is chief which proves to be invaluable information for Piggy. The line, said by Piggy: ââ¬Å"I can hardly move with all these creepersâ⬠Could be a hint towards the littluns misinterpretation of the creepers being the Beast. The creepers restricting Piggyââ¬â¢s movement could be a reference towards how the boys stayed primarily on the beach, the safest and most civilised place, away from the mysterious and potentially dangerous hidden depths of the forest. In conclusion, I think Golding used a range of significant details in the opening of ââ¬ËLord of the Fliesââ¬â¢ which are parallels of events which occur in later chapters. This provides an endearing journey with the boysââ¬â¢ life with ââ¬Ëno grown-upsââ¬â¢ and no impending rules of civilisation.

ELL, ESL, EFL and similar courses are designed to help students to enroot themselves in the basics and essentials of English from beginning. Importance of ELL Globalization has seen English becoming the language with maximum reach and influence, and it is taught in many nations as the second language. With English becoming the international language of commerce, business, law, technology and medicine, it is has become an essential career and communication tool. Estimates are that around 1. 5 billion people around the world, out of which more than 70 percent are non-native speakers of English, use English as a language of communication (Ferris and Hedgcock, 1998). In consequence there are host of full-fledged academies and dedicated institutions in many non English-speaking countries that design curriculum and try to select most appropriate course material to impart English communication skills to students (Gass and Schachter, 1996). On a secondary and more immediate level, there is a continuous influx of foreign nationals in USA and many of them lack formal communication training in English. The foreign nationals and students, who come to USA in thousands every year, share a combined language background of more than 1000 languages. The individual background of foreign nations s acts as a hindrance in their amalgamation with their immediate surrounding and culture, and presents the image of USA as an alien nation (Messerschmitt Vandrick and Hafernik, 1996). This obviously requires designing a comprehensive and all assimilating learning procedure that can act as cultural and linguistic melting pot. In this respect ELL assumes a very important role, providing a crucial cross over opportunity to foreign students, imparting the necessary communication learning and teaching that is essential for their survival in the generally English surrounding (Messerschmitt Vandrick and Hafernik, 1996). Theories in ELL designing Most of the students passing through traditional ELL courses have reported difficulty in actual understanding of content and implications of English language when they face it in the real life situation. In this perspective, researchers have theorized that by observing the model of English education imparted in native English speaking countries and modeling the ELL courses on those parameters (Messerschmitt Vandrick and Hafernik, 1996). The most prevalent and popular pedagogy model observed for native students showed that students were required to study novels, short stories, literature work, and were required to devote their time to writing. The formal schooling requires students to get well versed in descriptive, narrative, argumentative and imaginative style of writing (Gass and Schachter, 1996). These models also required students to undertake discussion and expositions on the literature material they covered during the course along with developing their own text, expressing their own ideas and reviewing and analyzing other works. Most of the major educational institutions have started following this process-oriented approach in language education that makes learning of language as a non-directional endeavor, enabling students to develop their inner thinker and writer and empowering them to imbibe, rather than learn, English language (Ferris and Hedgcock, 1998). Since 1980s, researchers have found that ELL methods succeeded mostly for students who were encouraged to develop a cognitive and create approach towards English through the process of writing (Messerschmitt Vandrick and Hafernik, 1996). Writing helps students to think originally, compose ideas in a logical way, transfer the essential communication strategies to students and enable them to develop a reflective intuition on interpretation of English text and language. There are a number of additional studies and researches to prove that learning strategies that are based on the model of primary education techniques have been successful in creating the most effective set of models (Gass and Schachter, 1996).

Total diet should have no more than 8% (of total energy intake) of saturated + trans fatty acids.All patients are advised to take approximately 1g Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and more than 2g Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA) daily. Diet should have vegetables, fruits and legumes, g rain-based foods, moderate amounts of lean meats, poultry, fish and reduced fat dairy products. EPA and DHA can be obtained from oily fish and marine n-3 (fish oil) capsule supplements. Alcohol consumption All patients should be advised to lower alcohol consumption. Men should drink no more than 2 standard drinks per day and women no more than 1 standard drink per day. Physical activityThe aim of this measure is to raise physical activity and exercise to the recommended goal of at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most, if not all, days of the week (i. e. 150 mins/week minimum). Maintaining a healthy body weight The aim should be to achieve a waist measure of less than or equal to 94 cm in men and less than or equal to 80 cm in women. The body mass index (BMI) should be maintained at 18. 5ââ¬â24. 9 kg/m2 Lowering blood cholesterol The aim of therapy should be to maintain blood cholesterol at: â⬠¢Low density lipoprotein (LDL) at ââ¬â less than 2. mmol/L â⬠¢HDL ââ¬â more than 1. 0 mmol/L â⬠¢Triglyceride (TG) less than 1. 5 mmol/L The blood cholesterol can be maintained with the use of pharmacotherapy. They found that inflammation results in the formation of soft (vulnerable) plaque which is filled with different cell types that promote blood clotting. The authors advocate different viewpoints about relations between the plaque level and structure, i. e. its influence on heart attack. The level of plaque will increase as the result of high level of cholesterol, type LDL, so called ââ¬Å"bad cholesterolâ⬠in blood. When the level of LDL is normal, bl ood can pass in and out of the blood vessels without problems, but if it significantly increase particles of the blood will accumulate and sooner or later provoke trigger (cause) heart attack. Older people have more chance to get heart attack and the man, especially those having ââ¬Å"bad medical historyâ⬠. Ration between man and woman are changing when women past the menopause. After that the level of risk is similar as the menââ¬â¢s one. As Iââ¬â¢ve presented there is direct correlation between cardiovascular disease and condition and health of blood vessels, more precisely of developing atheroma, means level and structure of plaque in vessels.On the other development of plaque and its level is directly influenced by level of cholesterol and some other elements which are connected with individual person and his/her life and genetic predispositions. As with the other diseases everybody has some risk of developing ather oma, but some risk factors increase the risk level for several categories.
